Votaws on Viking

We’ve made some plans…

April 18-20: On our own in Vienna. Biggest plan: take a one-hour train trip to Melk on Wednesday morning to visit the Melk Abbey. I’ve wanted to do this ever since I first heard about it many years ago. Expect lots of photos!

April 20-21: We will train from Vienna to Budapest on Thursday, arriving one day before we are due to get on the ship. Biggest plan in Budapest: the Szechenyi Bath. We’ve never tried anything like this. You probably won’t get many photos.

The Gellert Baths

April 21-22: We board the ship in Budapest. We spend the night on board, then take our first ship excursion (a walking tour of Budapest) on Saturday morning. Then the ship heads up the Danube towards Vienna.

April 23: This Sunday in Vienna is a big day. In the morning we have tickets to see and hear the Vienna Boys Choir singing in the chapel in the Hofburg Palace. In the middle of the day, we’ll see a performance of the Lippizaner Stallions in their home arena – also part of the Hofburg. That night, we attend a performance of “UN BALLO IN MASCHERA” (by Verdi) at the Vienna State Opera. Click on the name of the opera to see the picture – it’s impressive.

April 24-28: We finish out the cruise, one day for each city on the map. There’s an excursion in each city. Mostly walking tours. We signed up for one “extra” – a boat trip through the “Danube Narrows” near Regensburg. We’ll see if that is as good as it sounds.

April 28-30: We finish our trip in Amsterdam, along with Joyce. Biggest plan: A bus tour to the flower gardens. Should be impressive.
