A few highlights from yesterday’s games, including some important lessons in roster management. Take notes, so you don’t end up like… well, like one of our EFL managers.

Haviland: “W”, 3 – 3. .179, .233, .285; 8 ip, 7 er. Matt Barnes blew up! 5 ip, 6 er. But guess what? Matt Barnes is allocated at 0%, so no Dragons were hurt in the blast (other than Matt Barnes, but that’s merely an individual humanitarian issue which, of course, doesn’t concern us). Rats! First Samardzija and now Barnes. How does he get it right every time?
Old Detroit: W, 4 – 2. .286, .405, .371; 11.7 ip, 3 er. Adeiny Hechavarria exploded! 3 hits in 4 AB. But guess what? Adeiny Hechavarria is allocated at 0%, so no Wolverines were helped by the combustion (other than Adeiny Hechavarria, but that’s merely a merely an individual happiness issue which, of course, doesn’t concern us). Darn it! First Bradley, and now Hechavarria. How do I get it wrong every time?
Pittsburgh: DNP, 0 – (-3). .94, .333, .471; 9;3 ip, 3 er. No explosions here, but Stephen Piscotty did go 2 for 4 with a triple. He’s got an August OPS of .898, third on the team. How did the Alleghenys spot this guy? I never noticed him even though I put together the draft list.
Cottage: W, 3 – 1. .25o, .250, .25o; 9 ip, 2 er. No, every single Cheese did not go 1 for 4. Pablo Sandoval went 0 for 4. Jonathan Schoop covered for him with his 2 for 4.
Peshastin: DNP, 0 – (-3). .211, .348, .211; 7.7 ip, 1 er. On their off-day, the always-prepared Pears pared their runs permitted.
Flint Hill: W, 4 – 1. .200, .286, .400; 8 ip, 2 er. Evan Gattis got his greatest August game, I guess, going 2 for 3 with a gopher. He even got a guest pass.
Canberra: DNP, 1 – (-1). .211, .375, .421; 7 ip, 3 er. I was skeptical after last spring’s free agent draft when the ‘Roos had called up Yonder. He was there for them yesterday, though: 2 for 4 with a double, a homer, and a headache left over from being beaned Saturday by Upton’s batting helmet.
Kaline: W (-1), L 2; 2 – 8. .261, .292, .304; 1 ip, 1 er. Mike Zunino continued his torrid hitting, going 1 for 3. Since starting the month 0 for 25, he has gone on a three-game hitting streak in which he is 5 for 14 with a homer (.357, .357, .569).
Portland: DNP, 1 – (-2). .289, .289, .474; 4.7 ip, 1 er. Doggone it, Jean Segura! 2 for 5 with a double? Just one more humiliation for the Wolverine player personnel department? Wait… not so fast. His August line is only .219, .231, .250 — sub-replacement. This is not just another bit of Wolverine incompetency. Yet.
