“People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball,” Hornsby once said. “I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.”
I celebrated Thanksgiving in part by updating all the EFL rosters this evening while the family watched Elf. (Not among my top 10 Christmas movies. I even liked the other movie we watched this afternoon — Christmas with the Kranks — better.) (On the other hand, maybe the Official Christmas Movie of the EFL should be ELF.)
So now it’s time for our patented error correction process to kick in. Check your roster and as many of your rivals’ as you feel like checking. Look for the inevitable mistakes. If there aren’t any, well, it’s a Miracle (not) on 34th Street! And a Wonderful Life!
While you are perusing the rosters, note the pitiable Pittsburgh Alleghenys: they lost 22 players at the end of the season, with only 12 left on their roster — and only 4 pitchers. Thanksgiving is over, it’s time to back up the trucks and start offloading trade bargain care packages to help the poor people of Pittbsurgh have a happy holiday season!
The Alleghenys lost an excellent team:
C — Tyler Flowers, Blake Swihart
1b — Freddy Freeman
2b — Jung-ho Kang
ss — Addison Russell
3b — Miguel Sano
of — Oswaldo Arcia, Stephen Piscotty, Chris Carter
SP — Cole Hamels
SP — Stephen Strasburg
SP — Hisashi Iwakuma
SP — Noah Syndergaard
SP — Archie Bradley
RPs — Jake McGee, Robert Osuna, Xavier Cedeno, Josh Osich
That’s an above .500 team.
