What a great day in the EFL! Nine teams either Won outright, or “Won”, or “Lost” — they won in some form or other. Only one team suffered an outright loss. I’ll try not to make too bald an example of that one losing team. But I will say that losing team spoiled our perfect day.

Canberra: W, 8 – 4. (.297, .350, .730; 8 ip, 3 er ). Christian Bethancourt hit a pinch-hit homer (5.000 OPS), leading a mob of 7 Kangaroos with OPSes of 1.000 or more. Steven Matz pitched 7 strong innings (2 er). I am not saying the Kangaroos were unruly. It’s just that groups of Kangaroos are called “mobs” by the Canberran locals. So while we are suffering from mob rule, as mob rule goes, it probably doesn’t get any better than this.
Old Detroit: W, 6 – 3. (.316, .381, .658; 8.7 ip, 3 er). Dae-Ho Lee came off the bench, hit a tie-breaking single, and later in the game poked a home run just over the fence to highlight a fine day of Wolverine offense. Corey Kluber’s up-and-down season went up this time: 7 ip, 2 er. There apparently is no word for a group Wolverines, since they are solitary. I suppose a collection of wolverines in nature would have to be called a “coincidence of wolverines” which would, by the way, describe how most Wolverine rosters come together. So if Old Detroit ever visits first place again, we can say we are under “coincidental rule.”
Haviland: W, 5 – 4. (.286, .362, .405; 9.7 ip, 4 er). It wasn’t a bad day at all in Haviland — solid offense, competent pitching, a real win. Steven Souza led the hitters with 2 for 3, a homer and a walk. Carlos Martinez made a bit of a mess with his start — 5 ip, 4 er — but a flight (or possibly a weyr, a clan, or a thunder — the internet is not of one mind) of Dragon relievers cleaned things up nicely. DC: L, 1 – 3.

I don’t know what the collective word is for multiple Cheeses in proximity to one another, but based on our performance this year it should be “stink” or some derivative thereof.
