Fear! Fire! Foes! Awake! Carlos Martinez led the Dragons on Saturday with 9 scoreless innings.

Cottage: W (-1), L 1; (-2) – 0. (.174, .286, .174; 12.3, 5 er).
Kaline: L, 7 – 8. (.313, .405, .469; no pitching).
Haviland: W, 9 – (-2). (.348, .429, .522; 28 ip, 7 er).
Pittsburgh: DNP, 2 – (-1). (.325, .426, .575; 3 ip, 0 er).
Flint Hill: W 1, L 1; 4 – 7. (.172, .200, .207; 18.3 ip, 7 er)
.
They’ve got wolveritis real bad in the Cottage. Since Mother’s Day, the Cheese have gone 3 and 5, losing 0.056 on their winning percentage. The Drive have only gained 0.2 games on them, while the Tornadoes (also fighting wolveritis) slipped 0.9 further behind. But in that same week, the Dragons have gone 6 – 1, gained 0.059 in winning percentage, and moved 3.4 games closer to first, going from sixth place to third place. The Alleghenys have done well, too: 4 – 1; improving their winning percentage by 0.034, moving up one spot in the standings, and 2.1 games closer to first.
.
At this pace, the Dragons will be in first and the Alleghenys in third by next Sunday. Our brief golden age of liberation, our EFL Spring Non-violent Revolution, will be over. So let’s see if we can’t go at a different pace this week.
.
Peshastin: W, 7 – 3. (.302, .362, .442; 8.3 ip, 3 er). Max Scherzer had a rare bad outing (5 ip, 3 er). Bad for him, anyway: see below. But the Pears still gained behind a strong offense.
.
Portland: “L”, 10 – 9. (.350, .480, .850; 3 ip, 6 er). The Rosebuds need some Driving lessons. You can’t really go too far if you have the front wheels in Drive (1.339 OPS!) and the back wheels spinning in reverse (Julio Urias driven from the game after chulking: 2.3 ip, 6 er).
.
Canberra: W, 6 – 5. (.278, .366, .417; no pitching). Canberra made a mini-version of the same move the Dragons and Alleghenys pulled off. Over the week, the ‘Roos went 5 – 2, gaining 0.046 winning percentage and 2.9 games in the standings. I tell you once again: do not forget the fighting ‘Roos this year.
.
Old Detroit: W 1, L 1; 7 – 15. (.105, .227, .263; 4 ip, 3 er). Manny Machado had a decent day for a change — 2 for 4 with a homer and a walk — but no one else got a hit. Alex Meyer is being asked to do something he’s not ready to do: pitch. The Wolverines resumed collapsing, consumed by long-term wolveritis and a decimated pitching rotation. Oh, and now Kolten Wong is injured, too.
.
DC: W 2, L (-1); 7 – 3. .290, .314, .645; 11 ip, 0 er). The Balk, sensing the Wolverines’ imminent demise, pounced. Corey Seager led the offense (2 for 4 with a double, homer and walk). Jef Samardzija led the pitching: 8 scoreless innings. The Balk cut the Wolverines’ lead in half in a single day.
