I am working on the new defense ratings so I had to open Fangraphs. I haven’t done that much lately. I’m kind of off Fangraphs since I spend so MUCH time there this spring on the way to producing a 9th place team.
Anyway, I had to open Fangraphs to get their defensive stats for the season so far. And there, right there, was this article
Warbird Down: Some Additional Thoughts on Kyle Schwarber
There I learned:
- Kyle Schwarber has the lowest BABIP among qualified MLB hitters: .192.
- His slugging percentage on sliders dropped from .593 in 2015 to .042 in 2017.
- He has generated the 6th worst bWAR and the 2oth worst fWAR among qualified hitters.
- He has yet to accumulate an entire season’s worth of MLB plate appearances.
But I also glanced at his AAA stats so far since his demotion a week ago:
28 PA, .391 BA, .500 OBP, .913 SLG.
I wonder what his AAA slugging percentage on sliders is?
Finally, if AAA is 80% as hard as MLB, one can expect stats t0 deteriorate by 25% upon promotion to MLB. That would mean Schwarber, in his first week back in MLB, and every week thereafter, should produce something like this:
21 PA, .293, .375, .685
Sounds about right to me. Come on, Schwarbs! Let’s make it happen!
