EFL Standings for 7/17/17
EFL | ||||||
TEAM | WINS | LOSSES | PCT. | GB | RS | RA |
Haviland Dragons | 60 | 32 | .653 | — | 559.1 | 407.5 |
Cottage Cheese | 61 | 33 | .649 | 0.1 | 511.6 | 371.4 |
Pittsburgh Alleghenys | 59 | 31 | .650 | 0.5 | 519.4 | 372.3 |
Flint Hill Tornadoes | 59 | 33 | .646 | 0.6 | 481.8 | 353.6 |
Portland Rosebuds | 57 | 36 | .613 | 3.5 | 562.6 | 435.2 |
Kaline Drive | 55 | 37 | .600 | 4.8 | 478.0 | 388.9 |
Peshastin Pears | 54 | 39 | .576 | 7 | 449.9 | 391.2 |
Old Detroit Wolverines | 45 | 47 | .494 | 14.6 | 439.0 | 422.4 |
Canberra Kangaroos | 41 | 50 | .454 | 18.2 | 412.9 | 456.0 |
D.C. Balk | 34 | 57 | .373 | 25.6 | 449.6 | 584.4 |
.
Haviland: L, 1 – 6. (.194, .237, .306; 16.0 ip, 8 er). The Dragons seem to be uncharacteristically vulnerable this month, always on the verge of falling out of first place, susceptible to teensy commissioner errors, that kind of thing. Aren’t Dragons supposed to be these powerful terrible (in the old sense of “fear-inspiring”) lizards?
.
Cottage: W, 4 – 3. (.279, .347, .326; 19.3 ip, 6 er). For example, here, just 0.1 games back, are the Cheese. Whose afraid of Cheese? Apparently the Dragons are, or ought to be. Consider this: the Cheese are the thinnest of slices away from first place, even though Mike Trout has amassed an OPS of only .718 and has yet to hit for extra bases in the three games since he returned. Eric Young impersonated Trout for much of Trout’s absence. Trout is now impersonating Eric Young.
.
Pittsburgh: W 2, L (-1); 7 – 0. (.286, .395, .457; 13 ip, 4 er). The Alleghenys surged into third place Sunday behind David Price’s 8 shutout innings and strong hitting.
.
Flint Hill: L, 9 – 10. (.273, .347, .477; 13.3 ip, 8 er). Daniel Murphy stood almost alone against the forces of entropy in Flint Hill, still reeling from the shock of NOT being in first place as the Commissioner erroneously announced the other day. Demoralization threatens to run rampant in Flint Hill, as evidenced by Jeff Samardzija’s 6 ip, 7 er disaster.
.
Portland: W, 9 – 6. (.361, .425, .694; 0.7 ip., 0 er). I don’t remember ever highlighting Ehire Adrianza’s accomplishments. Today is his day, for leading the formidable Rosebud offense with his 2 for 3 day, with a homer and a walk. The ‘Buds are still within striking distance of the top.
.
Kaline: W, 9 – 2. (.346, .396, .577; 3.7 ip, 0 er). The Drive had the best day of any EFL team Sunday. Kaline slashed its deficit in the standings by more than a game with a big day at the plate led by Kris Bryant ( 3 for4 with a homer and a walk) and Brandon Phillips (3 for 3 and a hbp).
.
Peshastin: W, 2 – 4. (.154, .214, .231; 7 ip, 3 er). Where did the Pear offense go? Only seven batters appeared, and Allen Cordoba for only one plate appearance. Three of the seven combined to go 0 for 12. The rest went 4 for 14 with a double. Pear hopes to rise in the standings are constrained by a rime of replacements among both hitters and pitchers.
.
Old Detroit: L, 3 – 6. (.308, .325, .410; 10 ip, 6 er). Poor Andrew Moore fell apart a little in his first road start (3 ip, 5 er). The rest of the team couldn’t quite dig its way out of the hole Moore dug, breaking OD’s winning streak and leaving them 9 – 2 on the month.
.
Canberra: W (-1), L 2; 3 – 10. (.256, .310,.308; 7 ip, 8 er). This is a totally familiar experience for teams down here in our neighborhood: one guy’s brilliant performance (Porcello: 6 ip, 1 er) gets totally erased by another guy’s septuple chulk meltdown (Matz: 1 ip, 7 er).
.
DC: L, 4 – 6. (.220, .283, .366; 6.3 ip, 2 er). I’m not sure how the Balk got saddled with 6 runs today. There are some replacement relief innings in the Balk’s record, including as penalty for not having a lefty reliever. One appearance by a left handed reliever would help here.
