because, because, because, because, because
Because of the wonderful things he does.

Pittsburgh: W, 8 – 2. (.308, .345, .654; 1 ip, 0 er) Pittsburgh’s good day at the plate was supplemented by correcting a commissioner’s office error that undercounted Nick Castellanos’ stats.
.
Haviland: W, 5 – 5. (..231, .394, .500; 10 ip, 4) Kevin Gausman pitched 6 scoreless innings but is only allocated at 70%, so the Dragons were saddled with 4.8 runs.
.
Cottage: W 2, L 2 ; 19 – 16. (..100, .152, .133; 0.3 ip, 1 er) The time lords are tormenting the Cheese again, this time by suddenly inflicting a quadruple header on a day when the Cheese got shredded at the plate and never really showed up on the mound.
.
Flint Hill: W, 8 – 6. (.323, .333, .710; 1.3 ip, 0 er). If only the Tornados had stepped up on the mound like they did at the plate. They probably should trade for Tyler Skaggs to beef up that rotation. Skaggs will be off the DL any time now…
.
Portland: L, 4 – 7. (.259, .355, .407; 4 ip, 4 er). Yasiel Puig famously embodies mercuriality. The Rosebuds loved his 2 for 3 with a triple. I’ve never heard that Antonio Senzatela was particularly mercurial, but he did burst onto the scene senzationally, got benched for awhile, then was reactivated earlier this month. Yesterday he allowed 4 er in 4 ip. So maybe mercurial is as mercurial does.
.
Kaline: “L”, 3 – 1. (.171, .250, .314; 9 ip, 0 er) . There was a period late in June, while James Paxton was struggling, when I could have traded Corey Kluber for Paxton straight up. I dithered, Paxton had a couple of good starts, and the Wizard withdrew the offer. Last night Paxton confirmed the wizdom of the Wizard, again, with 7 shutout innings.
Peshastin: “L”, 6 – 5. (.250, .314, .625; 2 ip, 4 er). The Pears would have lost were it not for ex-Wolverines. Sure, Hunter Renfroe blasted a pair of homers without the benefit of even a hint of ex-Wolverinity. But so did Carlos Santana – who did one left handed and the other one right handed, and threw in a walk. Plus Jackie Bradley Jr. went 2 for 3. Jose Iglesias went 0 for 5, but the ex-W’s overall went .364, .416, .909, while the rest of the Peshastin roster went .200, .273, .500
.
.
Old Detroit: “L”, 6 – 6. (.341, .357, .488; 8 ip, 5 er). A good day at the plate — every Wolverine who appeared got at least one hit, and Josh Bell got three! — was only enough to just barely cancel Clayton Richard’s latest crummy outing: 8 ip, 5 er.
.
Canberra: W 1, L (-1); 5 – (-4). (.367, .387, .700; 14 ip, 6 er). First round draft pick Alex Bregman went 3 for 5 with a homer and two doubles to lead the Kangaroo offense. Martin Perez and Blake Snell spun identical 7 ip, 3 er pitching performances. As a result the ‘Roos had the best day in the EFL Sunday.
.
DC: DNP, (-3) – (-4). (.174, .208, .304; 5 ip, 0 er). If it weren’t for Patrick Valaika’s pinch-hit homer, the Balk would have gone .136, .174, .136 at the plate. That’s a .300 OPS. But with the homer, and 5 scoreless innings from Balky relievers, DC came away with what amounted to a narrow win.
