I am writing this between bouts of dozing in a DC hotel lobby. My red-eye flight was made even more so by a nice but squirmy kid in the next seat. I got to the hotel at 8 am. I can’t get into my room until 1:00. So why not patch together a statement to match my mental state? Intermittent.

Portland: W, 6 – 4. (.263, .364, .368; 8 ip, 4 er)
.
Brookland: W 2, L 2; 32 – 25. (.244, .358, .267; 8.7 ip, 10 er) The daily stats don’t look that good, but when you play a quadruple header, the stats you have stored up can affect your outcome more that what you did that particular day.
.
Old Detroit: “L”, 5 – 4. (.278, .316, .500; o pitching).
.
Canberra: W 2, L 1; 12 – 11. (.190. .286. .429; 2 ip, 0 er). Ehire Adrianza was the offensive stud: 3 for 4 with a homer from the banjo-hitting infielder. Scott Kingery almost matched him: 1 for 2 with a homer and a walk. Will the impending Kangaroo advance be fueled by big-hitting middle-infielders?
.
Flint Hill: W, 4 – 3. (.238, .289, .429; 8 ip, 3 er).
.
Cottage: W 2, L 2; 16 – 12. (.278, .333, .667; 10.7 ip. 2 er). Joc Pederson: 3 for 4 with two doubles and a homer. The Dodgers won. Mike Tr0ut went 3 for 5 with two homers. The Angels lost. There’s probably a lesson in there somewhere.
.
Pittsburgh: W, 4 – 3. (.182, .260, .205; no pitching). That’s across 49 plate appearances, so it’s a hefty bad day.
.
Kaline: L, 1 – 3. (.146, .234, .171; 12 ip, 4 er). Chase Anderson had a great day ( 7 ip, 0 er).
.
Haviland: L, 5 – 6. (.143, .351, .321; 8.7 ip. 6 er). Bryce Harper walked twice, got hit twice, and got excoriated by an anonymous baseball executive as an “overrated”, “selfish, losing player.” I dunno. I’d love a guy who gets on base every time, even if his batting average for the day was 0.000. I mean, if that anonymous baseball executive happens to be John Johnson, I’ll be happy to talk to him. I think there might be a line of people in front of me, though.

DC: W 2, L 1; 17 – 17. (.300, .429, .500; 7 ip, 6 er). Nice hitting — an Edgar Martinez Day! The only one in the EFL yesterday. Unfortunately the pitching was of about the same absolute value, mostly because of Daniel Mengden’s 4 ip, 6 er.
.
Peshastin: W, 7 – 6. (.294, .333, .618; 2 ip, 3 er). Mitch Haniger! has to be player of the day. He hit as many homers as Mike Trout, plus he got a walk, in one fewer plate appearance. And he nailed a runner at second from deep in the right field with a stunning throw (and a Javier-Baez-class tag by Jean Segura). Although his OBP was not 1.000, like Bryce Harper’s…
