Yesterday was a fairly quiet day in the EFL – perhaps most teams were lulled into relaxing while the sun was blazing in the PNW. There were not any no-hitters, no rumblings in the standings, and nothing much on which to report with any kind of dramatic flair. The only drama stirring at the moment is whether every team can get and stay over .500 before the end of the month. Which is a real possibility! And also not terribly exciting, at least for now.
So below I give to you a simple update, and hope that there will be some more drama for Ron to write about this weekend.

Old Detroit: L, 3-4
AVG: 0.241 |
OBP: 0.303 |
SLG: 0.345 |
OPS: 0.648 |
PA: 33 |
ERA: 1.80 |
WHIP: 1.400 |
IP: 5.0 |
It appears that when Devers and Buxton (DNP) fail to record a hit, it makes it difficult for the rest of the team to produce enough offense to win. The pitching was solid over 5 innings, thanks to Chris Paddack (and a Padre error). The Wolverines managed to keep their EFL lead due to similarly drab days from the pursuant teams.
Flint Hill: L, 2-4
AVG: 0.167 |
OBP: 0.231 |
SLG: 0.167 |
OPS: 0.397 |
ERA: 6.63 |
WHIP: 1.411 |
IP: 16.3 |
The Tornadoes had a bad day, but not as bad as the lines above indicate. The main reason is that we finally had our 10th pitcher appearm, erasing 4 penalty runs and we had Anthony Kay (3.3ip, 4er) 100% benched. But things still did not go the way they should go for an unstoppable force of nature. Julio Urias gave up 4 runs in 6 innings, and the hitting was pathetic with only 3 batters appearing, accruing only 2 singles.
Peshastin: “W,” 5-5
AVG: 0.239 |
OBP: 0.300 |
SLG: 0.478 |
OPS: 0.778 |
ERA: 3.60 |
WHIP: 1.200 |
IP: 5.0 |
The Pear climb to the top stalled a bit yesterday, but not by much. The accrued 50 PAs of decent hitting, and were only slowed by not getting quite enough pitching, though Trevor Rogers’ 5ip and 2er was a good offering. Mitch Haniger swatted 2 HRs to lead the Pear offense.
Haviland: W, 5-3
AVG: 0.136 |
OBP: 0.310 |
SLG: 0.227 |
OPS: 0.538 |
The Dragons a bit of their lost luster, winning again after a few dismal days. Apparently some stored up ABs helped them to those 5 runs, because their offense yesterday was limited to 2 doubles (Jake Cronenworth), one single (Maikel Franco) and 6 walks. Tarik Skubal and Michael Kopech delivered 5ip of decent pitching, and the Dragons managed to stay 1.8 games behind the Wolverines.
Pittsburgh: W, 11-4

AVG: 0.391 |
OBP: 0.462 |
SLG: 0.826 |
OPS: 1.288 |
No Pitching
The Alleghenys, along with the Roos, blew the rest of the EFL out of the water with their offensive performances yesterday (which, admittedly, was not difficult to do). Among their 9 hits, 2 were doubles, 1 was a triple, and 2 were HRs. Dansby Swanson led the way with a 3 for 4 day, including a 2b and a HBP.
Canberra: DNP ,1-1
AVG: 0.400 |
OBP: 0.455 |
SLG: 0.900 |
OPS: 1.355 |
As foretold, the Roos also dominated at the plate, but did so on an off day. The good thing for them is that once the Mets play an actual game the Roos will be able to take advantage of these offensive stats. For now they sit in purgatory. The Roos and the Balk have only played 8 games due to the Mets leading the NL East, and it will be interesting to see how their stats change once they get closer to the 13 games played by many of the other EFL teams, The Roos only sent three hitters to the plate, but they performed well, led by Vladito (3 for 5 with a 2B and a HR).
DC: DNP, 0-2
AVG: 0.208 |
OBP: 0.296 |
SLG: 0.417 |
OPS: 0.713 |
Like the Roos, there are some stats being suppressed for the Balk – but how are they being suppressed? Are there good stats waiting to be unleashed? If they are anything like yesterday’s stats, the Balk may be hoping that the Mets continue to stay in first but never play more than 8 games. Ryan McMahon continued his hot start to the season, going 2 for 4 with a 2b and a HR.
Portland: L, 4-7
AVG: 0.241 |
OBP: 0.290 |
SLG: 0.379 |
OPS: 0.670 |
The Rosebuds dropped their game yesterday, due partly to an awful outing from Joe Jimenez (though he is only allocated 33%). Nick Solak contributed the best offense, going 3 for 5 with a HR, but it wasn’t enough to overcome 7 runs given up.
Bellingham: “L,” 5-5
AVG: 0.286 |
OBP: 0.310 |
SLG: 0.429 |
OPS: 0.739 |
The hottest hitter in all of MLB is a Cascade (Ronald Acuna, Jr.) and he showed again last night why, launching his 7th HR of the young season. Justin Dunn threw another gem (5ip and 1 er) but AJ Minter ruined it by giving up 2 runs in 1ip.
Kaline: W, 3-1
AVG: 0.071 |
OBP: 0.176 |
SLG: 0.143 |
OPS: 0.319 |
The Drive managed to win with an awful offensive line, thanks to superb pitching from Aaron Civale (6ip and 1er) and two relievers combining for 0 runs in 2 innings. Andres Gimenez contributed the lone hit on the day for the Drive, a double.
Cottage: DNP, 0-7
AVG: 0.286 |
OBP: 0.375 |
SLG: 0.314 |
OPS: 0.68 |
The Cheese did not play a game yesterday, but it didn’t stop them from losing .5 games off the leading Wolverines. Mitch Keller is to blame, giving up 7 runs in 3.3 innings. They did collect 10 hits and 7 walks, but have nothing to show for it, unfortunately.
