Where did all the good stats go? And how long are we going to let one team get away with hogging them all? And skipping out on their share of bad stats, too?

OLD DETROIT: W, 4 – 3 (44 PA, .244, .295, .463; 7 ip, 2 er, 0.00 ERA). Logan Gilbert pitched well — whew! — 6 ip, 2 er. Rafael Devers and Byron Buxton homered, and JP Crawford went 3 for 4 with a double. It was all enough for a win, which is better than a loss. But…
FLINT HILL: W 2, L (-1); 20 – (-2) (43 PA, .436, .488, .872; 14 ip, 8 er, 5.14 ERA)... those Flinties are so darn lucky!! To wit:
* They got 5 homers (Gallo, Haniger, Bregman, Bichette, Goldschmidt), two doubles ( T. Hernandez, Betts), and TEN singles for a monster monster day at the plate, and
* Alek Manoah, Phil Bickford, and TJ McFarland combined for 10 shutout innings, allowing only 3 hits, and
* Yu Darvish, who pitched 4 innings while allowing 8 earned runs is for some reason 100% benched. WHY? Is Jamie using his position as a pastor to get inside information from God about who is going to massively double chulk?
I am sure this big boost was a one day thing and the Tornados will return to normal pestiness. Right? Or maybe the W’s will pull their own +2, (-1) day? Or at least some other team will get to have some really good stats, too?
DC: DNP, 0 – (-1) (12 PA, .182, .250, .545; 1 ip, 0 er 0.00 ERA). That .545 came from a single Xander Bogaerts homer. Good thing it was only ONE Xander Bogaerts homer, or the Mariners would have lost.
KALINE: W, 6 – 3. (22 PA, .300, .364, .550; 7 ip, 2 er, 2.57 ERA) Paolo Espino finished 6 ip, 1 er, to establish a reasonable target for the offense. And Aaron Judge hit another homer to lead the Drive offense to a nice win, edging out the Pears again for 4th place.
PESHASTIN: L, 4 – 7. (12 PA, .182, .250, .182; 1 ip, 0 er, 0 ERA). Just not enough Pears showed up, Only 3 hitters started, going 1 for 10, plus a Ryan Zimmerman pinch hit. How did that add up to 4 runs? Must have had some good offense stored up in suppressed plate appearances. But not so much in the way of extra innings pitched: Yimi Garcia’s perfect inning did not prevent 7 runs from being scored.
COTTAGE: DNP, (-3) – 0. (32 PA, .172, .250, .172; 8.3 ip, 5 er, 5.42 ERA) That slender offensive slash line cut significantly into Cottage’s rc/g in September, as shown by the minus three runs scored. Luis Gil struggled through 6 ip, surrendering 5 earned runs.
CANBERRA: DNP, (-1) – 0. (25 PA, .217, .280, .609; 2.3 ip, 2 er, 7.83 ERA) If it weren’t for the three homers (La Stella, Meadows, and, of course, Vladdy Guerrero) this would have been an unpleasant off-day for the Kangaroos. Paul Sewald had another bad day — 1 ip, 2 er — which, fortunately, the Mariners survived with out losing the game.
PITTSBURGH: DNP, (-1) – 0. (10 PA, .200, .200, .300; no pitching). You should be able to figure out what happened with that batting line: two hits, one of them a double. I suppose the NEWS is Max Muncy got neither of the hits despite coming to the plate 5 times. You know something fishy is up if Max Muncy goes 0 for 5.
HAVILAND: W (-1), L 2; 5 – 17. (12 ip, .273, .333 .636; 7 ip, 12 er, 15.43 ERA). Yikes. Spencer Howard completed 1.3 innings, touched up for 6 earned runs, a long quadruple chulk. AJ Alexy added 6 MORE earned runs in his 3.7 ip. Two relievers cleaned up only a little of that mess with their scoreless inning apiece. With only 4 hitters showing up, and Kyle Schwarber going 0 for 4, there wasn’t much good news. Although Jose Iglesias did homer and single in three plate appearances.
BELLINGHAM: DNP, (-1) – 1. (28 PA, .125, .214, .250; 1 ip, 1 er, 9.00 ERA). You know what’s going on here, don’t you? Those Flinties use up all the good stats on purpose! That’s why so many teams went begging for hitting or pitching… or both! In Bellingham’s case it was almost no pitching and only crummy hitting. Jorge Polanco was the hitting star, and he only went 1 for 5 (for a homer, but still). I am not trying to organize a mob to march on Flint Hill or throw bricks through their windows… but surely they should share more equitably.
PORTLAND: W, 8 – 3. (35 PA, .355, .429, .419; 1 ip, 0 er, 0.00 ERA). Nice offense, led by Harrison Bader (3 for 4 with a double and a walk). No pitching … so even Flint Hill’s brother wasn’t entirely spared from the Tornados’ havoc.

It was a dash of providence or luck, I suppose. Here is what transpired at 10:53 am yesterday morning, just 6 minutes and 59 seconds before the deadline:
I had entered into the transaction box the following: “Activate Darvish to the max, bench Manoah and Scott.” Then, at the last second, I had doubts. So I didn’t hit the button to make it official, knowing that I may have just sealed my fate.
As it so happened, Manoah was incredible (8 innings and 0 runs) and Darvish was, as you mentioned, horrible. He’s given up 45 runs in his last 48 innings! That’s why he is benched and will remain benched though his price tag is 16 million dollars.
This morning I did make some moves, which could be dangerous since it is never good to mess with a good thing. We’ll see what happens, I guess.
Just kidding! I haven’t entered the transaction yet. I thought I had, but I apparently got gun-shy again. I suppose I should do it here soon…
Arrgh. I didn’t want to know this — that you ALMOST activated Darvish. What if the season comes down to that?
Meanwhile Paddack is now injured, too. I now have starters Snell, McClanahan, Taillon and Paddock on the MLB IL, along with my best reliever (Loaisiga). I still have Buehler, Stroman, Gilbert, and (whoopeee!!!) Minor to start. So should I activate Nate Pearson? I spent a first round pick and $14,250,000 on him… and his September ERA is down to just 5.40…
Nah. He can do more harm than good. I still have 8 innings more than the minimum.
