I haven’t found any of the pennant races very engaging this year. For one thing, I’ve been swimming pretty hard with work this year, wave after wave washing over me. For another, none of my MLB teams are in the hunt for playoff spots. For a third… well, it just seems like the EFL has been very static this year.
These were the standings after Wednesday’s games:

Here they are this morning after Thursday’s games:

Kaline Drive | 63 | 83 | .434 | 32.8 | 589.7 | 678.9 |
Portland Rosebuds | 59 | 86 | .409 | 36.3 | 601.9 | 726.1 |
Microscopic differences. The Wolverines had a GREAT day, the first one of the month that I’ve noticed: .342, .375, .543; 17 ip, 5 er including Matt Moore! 7 ip, 0 er!. This should be exciting news!
But the standings — well, the W’s did gain 0.7 games on the Dragons. But the W’s aren’t going to have seven more such days in a row. They aren’t even going to have 7 more the rest of the season, which has only 17 games left.
That 0.7 game move was the biggest in the league. The Pears are only 0.5 back of the Cheese, so they might swap spots, but big whoop. They do that all the time. Portland seemingly has settled into the 3rd overall pick in next spring’s draft. Where’s the drama?
It doesn’t get any better if you look at the entirety of MLB/EFL:

Without the EFL, there are not many pennant races. The AL West is the best, but it’s two teams in Texas, so who cares? The Blue Jays haven’t quite buried the Yankees yet, but every other division is settled.
Add in the EFL and it only gets a little better. Suddenly the Royals don’t have it all sewed up, and the Pears tighten the NL West a little — but it’s still not really a race. But the Wolverines ruin the AL East race, and the Dragons obliterate the AL West.
Just no drama.
If you see some drama anywhere in the EFL or the MLB+EFL, let us know.
Big whoop?? Hey! If the Pears finish ahead of the Cheese, the apocalypse is delayed one more year. Important things are happening down here in the middle of the back.
