I was poking around the EFL website a bit ago and discovered “The Tempest” , team blog for the Dust Devils… no, for their major league team, the Tornados. It’s only had 17 views, half of which were probably by its author if my experience is any guide, so some of you may have missed it. If you did, go look at it now.
EFL Standings for 2017

.
Cottage: W, 9 – 4. (.347, .385, .653; 12.7 ip, 5 er). A daily team OPS of over 1.000 is hard to match. Eight Cheeses surpassed 1.000 on the day. Can you guess which one led the way? WRONG! Mike Trout only OPSed .650. The leader was Travis d’Arnaud, who went 3 for 3 with double and a walk (2.333 OPS).
.
Haviland: L, 3 – 4. (206, .282, .324; 1 ip, 0 er). Woah. That picture I posted yesterday was a KIMODO Dragon.. Not all dragons are small and pink. Your Dragons still can still shock and awe us. Go ahead, give it a try. I didn’t really jinx you. I don’t know how to do mojo.
.
Pittsburg: L, 2 – 7. (.211, .286, .237; 10.3 ip, 5). In the Flint Hill blogpost and its comments, there’s a lot of hand-wringing about the nefarious Old Guard teams. Are they crazy? Look at these feeble offenses and spotty pitching from the Dragons and Alleghenys. Try to find the Wolverines — I dare you. You’ll need a telescope or one of those deep space radio telescope.
.
Flint Hill: L, 3 – 5. (.283, .321, .377; 1 ip, 0 er). The Whimpering Winds are still whimpering, sinking now to 3.2 games back. Putative savior Yoan Moncada went 0 for 3. He’s now batting .111, .273, .333 for his career. So far the lament posted on the EFL website hasn’t produced anything good for the Tornados.
.
Portland: “W”, 4 – 4. (.231, .326, .308; 8 ip, 2 er). Almost a winning day. Germen Marquez produced 7 strong innings .
.
Kaline: L, 4 – 6. (.246, .271, .509; 13 ip, 7 er). Pretty good hitting, especially in the slugging department (4 homers and 3 doubles), but the pitchers couldn’t keep runs off the board.
.
Peshastin: W, 5 – 5. (.222, .333, .417; 8 ip, 0 er). My apologies to Pear fans everywhere. The Pears posted their decision yesterday to activate Salazar at starting pitching, but I forgot to do the update before yesterday’s game, His fine 8 IP, 0 ERA outing is reflected here but not in the database. It will be tomorrow.
.
Old Detroit: W, 5 – 4. (.233, .303, .500; 13.3 ip, 6 er). It may not seem like much, but it was the third best day for an EFL team yesterday. Only the first and last place teams did better.
.
Canberra: “W”, 6 – 7. (.258, .303, .484; no pitching). The Kangaroos continue in their mysterious doldrums. Top draft pick Alex Bregman is coming on lately, OPSing .942 in July, Edgar Martinez fashion: .321, .424, .518.
.
DC: L, 1 – 8. (.143, .273, .179; 8 ip, 6 er). Jeremy Hellickson did all the damage: 5 ip, 6 er. Three relieers added a scoreless inning each, but without much offense the game was out of hand.
