Somehow yesterday I published Friday standings, but did all the day-to-day updates with Saturday’s actual standings in front of me. If you noticed some disconnect between my comments and the displayed standings, that was the reason. It wasn’t because I was suffering from sunstroke in the Sahara and seeing apparitions of princes of tiny planets. Nothing supernatural about it; just my normal fuzzyheadedness.
So today I am attempting the incredible feat of comparing today’s standings to those from yesterday which you never saw. I have posted yesterday’s actual standings at the end of this post, for your reference.

Portland: “L”, 9 – 7. (47 PA, .400, .468, .550; 20.3 ip, 14 er, 6.20 ERA).
The Rosebuds have had a flat last few days. But you can see here they are unlikely to stay flat. The super solid offense spoiled mostly by German Marquez’ 5.7 ip, 7 er. Take that away and they win pretty solidly.
Flint Hill: DNP, (-3) – 4. (43 PA, .121, .256, .273; 10 ip, 9 er, 8.10 ERA).
Yikes. Wade LeBlanc is always capable of chulking. He did it last night (2.7 ip, 6 er). It’s amazing, really, how seldom this happens to him.
Old Detroit: DNP, 5 – 1. (52 PA, .388, .423, .633; 16.7 ip, 8 er, 4.32 ERA).
The W’s are leading the league this month, by a hefty margin, in raw plate appearances. I wish that meant more than it does.
Canberra: L, 5 – 10. (45 PA, .300, .378, .375; 3.7 ip, 4 er, 9.82 ERA).
Kyle Barraclough executed a tight nonuple chulk, serving up a homer and 3 earned runs in while getting only one out.
Pittsburgh: W, 11 – 6. (39 PA, .361, .410, .667; 12 ip, 9 er, 6.75 ERA)
Only in the EFL can a 36 – 33 team be sandwiched in the standings between two 37-34 teams. What a great league!
Peshastin: L, 2 – 8. (33 PA, .226, .242, .419; 5.3 ip. 5 er, 8.44 ERA)
Of the Pears’ 13 total bases, Marcus Semien and Juan Soto accounted for 11.
Haviland: W, 4 – (-3). (38 PA, .235, .316, .698; 19.3 ip, 6 er, 2.79 ERA).
I have just noticed that Haviland has the lowest misallocation of playing time in the league. The Dragons are carrying 4 replacement PA and 11 surplus PA this month. That’s a Roster Inefficiency Index of 15. Flint Hill runs a close second wth 7.9 replacement innings and 8 replacement PAs, for an RII of 15.9.
Kaline: L, 1- 5. (47 PA, .163, .234, .163; 2 ip, 0 er, 0.00 ERA)
On the other hand, Kaline has the most inefficient allocation in the league. With 12.4 replacement innings, 44 replacement PA, and 147 surplus PA, Kaline has a RII of 203.4. Bellingham is second with 174 (40, 73, 61), with Old Detroit third at 148.8 (0.8, 8, 140).
Bellingham: L, 6 – 8. (38 PA, .250, .342, .500; 1.7 ip, 1 er, 5.40 ERA).
I continue to be very curious about where the Cascades might be if they had enough pitching. As of this morning, 40 of their 91.9 ip have been replacements at an era of 7.50. The actual pitchers have a June ERA of 3.47.
Cottage: L, 4 – 9. (29 PA, .214, .241, .500; no pitching).
Huh. Of the Cheese’ 105 ip, 53.7 are replacement innings. All of a sudden I am wondering about them, too! Although actual Cheese pitchers are lugging aound a 5.94 ERA, thanks mostly to Drew Smiley whose ERA is 12.58 all by himself.
Brookland: W, 6 – 1. (34 PA, .233, .324, .467; 8.7 ip, 2 er, 2.08 ERA)
The Outs traded away Charlie Morton, putting themselves into Cascade/Cheese territory with 48.7 replacement innings out of 105 total. Too bad they didn’t trade Morton to someone who needed him. The Rosebuds have 55 surplus innings.
DC: “W”, 4 – 4. (44 PA, .286, .318, .310; 6 ip, 2 er, 3.00 ERA)
The Balk only have 18 replacement innings, and only 6 replacement PA, putting them 4th and 7th in these two undesirable categories. Saturday didn’t erase any replacement innings — Dylan Bundy pitched a strong and precisely adequate 5.0 innings.
I wonder how much the recent changes in pitcher use are accounting for this year’s replacement innings bounty. I should do a study! Maybe I should tell my family thanks but I’m want to spend the rest of the day studying trends in EFL replacement innings…

I think that there is a definite correlation between changes in pitcher usage in MLB and our increased usage of replacements. I say this, of course, without any supporting evidence or even research. But I know that it’s getting pretty difficult to find good old-fashioned starting pitching.
One interesting stat would be a count of games in which the starter goes 6 innings or more. My guess is that this count would be significantly lower in recent years. But we EFL owners have to somehow find 5 starter IP per game, and the quality of Cheese pitching this year has made that a rare thing.
