The season is winding down. What’s important? Nothing much.

.
Portland: L, 3 – 5. (42 PA, .194, .262, .333; no pitching)
“Nothing much” kind of overestimates the pitching the Rosebuds got — but it’s right on target for the hitting. It also suddenly describes the size of Portland’s lead in the EFL pennant race!
.
Flint Hill: W, 5 – 1. (42 PA, .282, .318, .436; 5 ip, 0 er, o.00 ERA)
What did Tornado pitchers allow their opponents to score? Nothing much. What’s keeping the Tornados out of first place? Apologies to the Rosebuds, but the anwser is “nothing much.”
.
Old Detroit: W, 11 – 4.(69 PA, .339, .435, .678; 12 ip, 5 er, 3.75 ERA)
What is the Commissioner planning to do to commemorate an eventual dramatic Tornado victory in the pennant race, payback to the ‘Buds for what they did to the Wolverines last year? Nothing much. How much further back of first are the W’s than the Tornados? Well, the W’s have snuck back under 10 games behind, which makes them possibly less than 100 times as far behind as the T’s. The Tornado deficit is microscopic. So the W’s deficit isn’t very big, either. In the grand scale of things, it’s nothing much.
.
Peshastin: “L”, 6 – 2. (60 PA, .245, .383, .347; 2.7 ip, 0 er, 0.00 ERA)
A solid day like this, when you have decent hitting and pitching and get a disguised win, is a pleasant thing to behold. I hope Phil beheld it. Because it did nothing much to change the Pears’ hopes for the postseason, the only way for Phil to derive utility from all that effort is if he can enjoy watching his team do well.
.
Pittsburgh: L, 1 – 5. (26 PA, .167, .231, .250; 8 ip, 4 er, 4.50 ERA)
Brian Goodwin (not THAT Brian Goodwin, the one we saw at the baseball clinic at Linfield, Ryan… Not my old student, either) an Mike Moustakas both OPSe 1.267. Every other Allegheny OPSed .500 (2 of them) or 0.000 (4 of them). So that adds up, clearly, to not much.
.
Haviland: L, 0 – 4. (40 PA, .171, .275, .257; 2.7 ip,. 0 er, o.00 ERA)
The Dragons only had one batter OPS over .650: Yasiel Puig. He went 3 for 3 with two doubles and a walk — a perfect day with a not perfect OPS, but 2.667 will do. What did the other 8 Dragon batters do? A c0mbined .100, .182, .100. The epitome of nothing much.
Canberra: W, 11 – 4. (47 PA, .359, .468, .846; 4.7 ip 0 er, 0 era)
Kaline: L, (-2) – 3. (47 PA, .149, .196, .213; 12.3 ip, 5 er, 3.65 era)
Canberra and Kaline continued their dance, with the ‘Roos landing right smack dab on the .500 line, and the Drive slipping just off it. Apparently not even two EFL teams can dance on the head of the .500 pin. What changes in the lives of the ‘Roos and Drive if they manage the impossible feat? Probably nothing much. What would be a better candidate for the third funnest thing happening in the EFL right now? Probably nothing much.
Cottage: L, 1 – 1. (29 PA, .185, .241, .296; 11.7 ip, 4 er, 3.09 ERA)
Bellingham: “W”, 5 – 7. (17 PA, .357, .438, .643; 5 ip, 3 er, 5.40 ERA)
Brookland: L, 2 – 7. (15 PA, .154, .267, .154; 1.7 ip, 2 er, 10.80 ERA)
DC: W, 2- (-6). (43 PA, .205, .256, .359; 19 ip, 4 er, 1.89 ERA)
One of these teams is not like the others. One of these teams might be about to make a miraculous escape from the cellar — for the second year in a row! What would be cooler than that?
