On the town in Lucerne, Day Two

I’m experimenting with this new way to present pictures. Click on a picture for a much better presentation, then press the ESC key to get back here. Let me know (in the comments) if you prefer this new format or the old one; I’m not sure which is better.

We had breakfast in a little bakery across the street. Karen was feeling much better and wanted to go out with us today.

Steve ordered a macchiato and a streusel - then had to wait while we all took pictures before he could start in on it.

This style of painting buildings in Germanic cities goes back generations.

This is a very old-style building painting that is much more ornate - but harder to see without all of the colors.

The riverfront buildings compete with each other for beauty and design. I love the look of the bridge, too.

Looking south as the river flows toward us from Lake Lucerne.

Many buildings are decorated on the corners with this sort of styling. The long pointy top seems to be a Swiss thing.

Another typical town scene. Lucerne is a beautiful city to walk.

Down the street from our hotel is an Apotheke (apothecary) or what we would call a drugstore. In this window they have assembled an old-timey apothecary, full of fascinating objects.

In the Konditerei they have these fancy chocolates in the window. Wouldn't it be terrible to have one?

After our day on Mt. Pilatus we went out to dinner together. It was a perfect evening, not too hot or cold, and we ate outdoors.

We noticed another wooden bridge further downriver - and it has the paintings in it. The paintings depict the history of the town from a medieval point of view - lots of skeletons and death!

Karen found a pizza named for her on the menu. She liked it too! Prices are in francs, which are a little more expensive than dollars.

At dinner tonight we recapped the great day we had together. Best of all, Karen got through the day with much less pain and was able to be with us for everything.

Walking home after gelato tonight we were captivated by the reflection of the shop lights on the river water.
