Freddie Mercury and Montreux
Our planned trip to Jungfraujoch was cancelled by bad weather. Instead, we spent most of the day shopping and doing laundry. Lauterbrunnen had a market day and there were lots of vendors on the street for the whole length of the town. Then in the mid-afternoon we took the train to Grindelwald. There we got a few photos and an interesting dinner.

On Thursday we left Lauterbrunnen – all of us wished we could stay longer! – for Montreux. The reason we went to Montreux was to experience the Golden Pass panorama train through the Swiss Alps. The Golden Pass train ends in Montreux.
The trip was somewhat of a disappointment as the weather was terrible and our views were blocked by clouds. When we got to Montreux the rain was pouring down (as it had been all day). We got to our hotel there, dried out a little, and had a fabulous lunch at a restaurant by the hotel. While we were eating the rain finally stopped, the sun came out, and we were able to visit the Castle Chillon and walk around the town.
Montreux is famous for its annual jazz festival that takes place earlier in the year. It’s a night-life town, with a large casino and many big hotels. The city is located on the shore of Lake Geneva, at the east end. Four of us took a walk along the waterfront and enjoyed the views.
